How is child support calculated?

Child support is designed to provide for the needs of the children. Child support payments are usually paid by the noncustodial parent. These payments are combined with the assets of the custodial parent and applied toward the children's expenses. Child support amounts are based upon the Florida child support guidelines. The guidelines will take into account items, such as:

  • Net income of each parent
  • Health insurance payments
  • Federal and state income taxes
  • Amount of time spent with children
  • Child custody arrangements
  • Number of children
  • Day Care and After Care
  • Special needs of children, such as medical or educational
